English Sermon (8/23) – Be a Sycamore Tree (Luke 19:1-10)
“For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost” – Luke 19:10
For every nonbeliever/unsaved person there are barriers between them and Jesus. For some the barrier is a cultural one, some a relational one and others spiritual, etc. In the case of Zacchaeus in Luke 19, there was a literal physical barrier: his height. Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector – a very rich man whom many despised. The beauty in this story is that the barrier can be BROKEN or overcome. The sycamore tree allowed Zacchaeus to see Jesus. There was nothing special about this tree except that it was in the right place at the right time and ready to be stepped on and be the platform for Zacchaeus to use. Let us be the sycamore tree in each of our communities so that those who are lost may come to see Jesus.
